ZTE and China Telecom launch the world's first commercial 5G magnetic levitation high-speed network test

The test achieved extremely high data rates in ultra-high mobility

29 November 2019, Shenzhen, China: ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, today announced that ZTE and China Telecom have jointly launched the world's first commercial 5G maglev (magnetic levitation) high-speed network test in Shanghai, China. The test measured communications within a train travelling at a maximum speed of 500KM/h. During the test, the 5G commercial terminal was stable and easy to support various high performance mobile broadband services, demonstrating that the 5G network can provide high-speed maglev trains with ideal broadband communications.

Shanghai Maglev is the world's first maglev line for commercial operation and at present it is also the fastest commercial high-speed train. It has been a business card for Shanghai and even for China since its operation. Built by China Telecom and ZTE together, the 5G network uses a full set of ZTE 5G system equipment, perfectly enabling passengers to get high-speed data access on a quick journey and enjoy services like mobile working, video conferencing, HD/UHD video or interactive games, ensuring a brand-new communication experience.

Due to special scenario restrictions, providing high-quality network coverage for high-speed trains has always been a challenge for both operators and equipment vendors. When a 5G network is deployed in a higher frequency than 2G, 3G and 4G networks, the situation will be even less ideal. To solve these problems, ZTE and China Telecom have made breakthroughs in multiple aspects by constantly challenging the technical limits through technological discussions and tests. With proprietary doppler frequency shift channel compensation technology, wireless channel deterioration caused by high-speed movement is eliminated. The solution can support a moving speed of over 500 KM/h, meeting the speed requirements of various high-speed trains. Besides, Multi-RRU (Remote Radio Unit) combination can realize single cell 6-12km belt shape coverage, reduce 90 percent of inter-cell handover and ensure continuous and stable access. Compared with the traditional 2T2R solution, ZTE is the first to introduce 8T8R RRU for high-speed railway coverage in the 5G industry. Multi-channel equipment, combined with 5G featured channels and beam scanning technology, can enhance the coverage significantly. It is also worth mentioning that the solution is implemented through technical innovation at the base station network side and has no special requirements for terminals.

The 5G network solution used for the Shanghai Maglev line can provide a complete set of network equipment for HSR (High Speed Rail) broadband communication. The radio units can support global mainstream 5G bands like N41 and N78. The top speed of Shanghai Maglev train is the highest among commercial trains in the world, which implies that this 5G network solution can be applied to various high-speed railways and maglev lines worldwide and has great market potential.

Over the years, ZTE and China Telecom have jointly provided broadband information channels for high-speed rail transit. LTE coverage has been deployed for multiple high-speed railway lines, which was highly appraised by users. Going forward, the two parties will continue to optimize the commercial performance of the 5G networks and steadily promote tests and verification according to specific service characteristics to facilitate ubiquitous high-speed broadband access.

ZTE and China Telecom complete the industry's first uplink enhancement FAST verification

27 November 2019, Shenzhen, China - ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, today announced its partnership with China Telecom to complete the verification of the industry's first FAST (FDD Assists Super TDD) solution at 2.1GHz and 3.5GHz in Shenzhen, China.

Based on China Telecom’s uplink enhancement technology, this solution enables spectrum to reach its full potential by integrating time and frequency domains and constructing high-quality 5G networks with excellent performance and coverage.

China Telecom’s innovation of the "uplink enhancement" concept enhances the 5G uplink by using low frequency bands, such as 1.8GHz and 2.1GHz, to improve 5G network coverage and performance. For China Telecom's existing 2.1GHz FDD and 3.5GHz TDD bands, ZTE and China Telecom has launched the uplink enhancement FAST (FDD Assists Super TDD) solution.

Based on the complementary qualities of TDD and FDD, in 3.5GHz weak uplink area, the terminal can transmit data at a high speed based on the 2.1 GHz frequency band. In addition, it can continue to make use of the advantages of 3.5GHz in bandwidth and large-scale array antennas to benefit from the downlink ultra-high rate.

In other areas with quality 3.5GHz coverage, the potential of 2.1GHz and 3.5GHz frequency bands can be fully utilized. This enables the terminal to transmit uplink data, in conventional UL CA mode, via three channels on two frequency bands at the same time. In the time domain, all the uplink frequency bands of FDD are fully utilized.

In addition, by deeply analyzing the features of frequency division duplex at 2.1GHz and time division duplex at 3.5GHz, the innovative CA with transmission mode switching in time domain, is based on multiple uplink carriers for time division transmission. This makes the full use of downlink timeslot resources.

To make the most effective use of the uplink resources of TDD and FDD, the terminals that only support two Tx-channel transmissions can flexibly switch between two channels of NR 3.5GHz and one channel of FDD 2.1GHz. At the same time, the downlink throughput can be improved in the FDD and TDD band aggregation mode, so that the best performance can be obtained in the uplink and downlink directions in the complicated wireless environment.

The test shows that, the uplink rate of a single user can be up to 40% higher than that of a single carrier (3.5GHz) when time division multiplexing (CA) is used. When conventional UL CA is used, the maximum increase of the single-user uplink rate is 60%. In addition, through high and low-frequency aggregation, the downlink user experience rate in both conditions can be increased by 20%, compared with a 3.5GHz single carrier.

In the future, ZTE will continue to partner with China Telecom to explore the application of new 5G technologies and functions in commercial networks, improve network quality, build 4G and 5G top-quality networks and provide better network services.

Controllis launches carbon neutral power solution for off-grid and poor-grid telecom sites

Controllis Zero offsets CO2 emissions from power production with sustainable solar and biofuel system

Cambridge 27th November 2019. According to the GSMA there are more than one million off-grid / poor-grid telecoms sites in use globally, which combined are generating a carbon footprint greater than countries such as Nepal, Cambodia and Cameroon. By leveraging the environmental benefits of biofuels and supporting ethically approved CO2 offsetting processes such as tree planting or renewable energy sources for remote communities, Controllis Zero is poised to help large Telco’s meet their legal, shareholder and green obligations.

The Controllis Zero biofuel lifecycle

The Controllis Zero biofuel lifecycle

Controllis, a leading supplier of hybrid power systems for mobile network operators (MNOs) and tower companies, has leveraged its experience to develop a carbon neutral site power system to help support a net zero emissions economy, established by the Paris Agreement.

Controllis Zero will allow off-grid and poor-grid sites to produce cleaner energy overall by replacing their dependency on fossil fuels with an eco-friendly solar and biofuel alternative.

Based on Controllis’ proven and globally deployed Modular48 DC power system, (which already reduces carbon emissions by up to 90 percent by harnessing solar power and rechargeable lithium ion batteries), Controllis Zero will allow MNOs and tower companies to overcome the final 10 percent of the CO2 emissions challenge.

Controllis has been able to achieve this carbon-neutral status by considering the carbon cycle process in its entirety and adapting its unique DC generator technology to run on E100 bioethanol instead of diesel. All this is accomplished without compromising network uptime.

“With global warming increasing and net zero targets looming, companies are under increasing pressure to operate in a more sustainable way”, explains Simon Albury, Managing Director of Controllis. “Controllis Zero has been developed with efficiency initiatives such as OFGEM’s ECO in mind and any CO2 released during energy production is offset by a carbon-neutral biofuel manufacturing process.”

The Controllis Zero biofuel lifecycle

  • The manufacture of E100 bioethanol during the plant growth stage is carbon negative because CO2 is converted into oxygen by photosynthesis

  • CO2 emissions during bioethanol fermentation and distillation are counterbalanced by ethical offset programs supported by the United Nations

  • E100 bioethanol is shipped to different locations using the greenest modes of land and sea transport. The emissions for the transport phase are also offset.

  • Controllis’ hybrid solar lithium ion solution is the principal power source up to 90% of the time. The remaining 10% is produced by Controllis’ bioethanol-powered generator

Controllis Zero also comprises powerful and secure remote monitoring and analytical tools, giving onsite and offsite maintenance teams meaningful and actionable insights into all aspects of the system’s power output and performance levels in real time.

Controllis Zero will be commercially available from Q1 2020.

In-depth knowledge and advanced data are crucial to saving costs, improving quality and reducing timescales of street works, says Gaist

Skipton, UK, 26 November 2019: With an ever-increasing number of street works taking place across the UK’s highway networks each year, telecommunications providers need to take advantage of in-depth analysis and data in order to cut costs, improve quality and speed up widescale fibre deployment, Gaist Head of Business Development, Ian Job said today.

Addressing the specialist consultants at a private street works conference, Job highlighted how in-depth imagery before and after the necessary street works can provide crucial, time-stamped records of the quality of work carried out, adding value and validation for any subsequent warranty claims that may arise to make it easier for all stakeholders.

Gaist logo

Gaist logo

“Street works from telecoms and utilities companies are commonplace on the UK’s road and footway networks. In order for contractors to successfully roll out ultra-fast and reliable broadband, up to date, detailed intelligence of the UK’s carriageways and footways including the type, condition, access and location of existing assets, is critical,” advised Job.

While the primary purpose of highways is to facilitate safe and convenient travel, roads also serve an important role in accommodating the essential services on which people rely, such as water, gas, electricity and telecoms. To ensure that these services operate reliably, utility companies must occasionally maintain, repair, upgrade and install apparatus under the roads and pavements while ensuring that they are completed as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Having a detailed overview of the working environment and existing infrastructure is vital to the accurate planning, design and budgeting of installation, maintenance and upgrade projects on the highway network, advised Job.

According to the Asphalt Industry Alliance’s 2019 Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance Survey the number of street works pertaining to utilities openings increased by nearly 10% over the last year, totalling more than 2 million across England and Wales. In many cases, utilities works are completed up to standard and within the projected timeframes, but in some circumstances the works can cause delay and disruption on the road networks. This delay can be intensified when street works are mis-managed or unexpected problems arise.

Local authorities are spending an average of 8% of their carriageway maintenance budget addressing pre-emptive works associated with digging up the ground in order to maintain, repair or upgrade utility services. This amounts to an average of £1.1 million per local authority, or £181.4 million across England and Wales.

“Managing street works can place a strain on already stretched local authority road maintenance budgets,’ said Job. “Early insight into the condition, access and location of existing assets of the working environment can reduce the risk of unexpected delays and additional costs, time and disruption.”

As network providers set their sights on 5G and widespread fibre rollout looks set for the future, network infrastructure is going to become increasingly important. Keeping the costs and timescales of fibre deployment projects to a minimum is going to be crucial to the future network infrastructure, emphasised Job.

Job proceeded to highlight how the in-depth knowledge and advanced data provided by Gaist’s solutions can help operators to plan networks cost-effectively, providing significant savings through improving installation times and minimising disruption to the road network at the same time. With detailed and time-stamped imagery before and after the works, Gaist’s solutions also offers validation for stakeholders should any claims arise.

“The rollout of fibre is no easy task but with our technology we can minimise the unnecessary difficulties and support faster fibre rollout across the UK,” added Job. “In order to ensure accurate planning, budgeting, design and delivery, operators need to understand the critical infrastructure assets of the working environment.”

Gaist’s unique infrastructure digital twin of the UK’s roads and pathways creates a precise view of the highway network that allows network and utility providers to minimise the risk of unexpected setbacks and achieve quantifiable cost savings. Time stamped and location specific imagery of the entire route can provide an audit trails in the event of quality issues further down the line.

"Enhanced testing is critical in an era of exponential disruption in the channel," urges AddOn Networks, following recent NEBS certification

Tustin, California, US November 26 2019 - Third-party compatible optical transceivers offer network operators an alternative to proprietary Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) connectivity - but with an overwhelming number of third-party suppliers worldwide, operators need to recognize the importance of compatible transceiver test methods, advised Patrick Beard, Chief Technology Officer at AddOn Networks.

Testing is the first step to ensuring quality across programming and hardware. The compatibles industry uses several common test methods for quality control but now operators need to look for the differentiating factors in testing to ensure the quality is not being sacrificed to save costs, highlighted Beard.

AddOn Networks logo

AddOn Networks logo

“Quality claims are easy to express, but in today’s global marketplace they are even harder to prove,” said Beard. “At AddOn, we pride ourselves on the high-quality assurance of our products which is why we have invested heavily in our state-of-the-art testing facility and continue to invest in independent testing to offer the channel market third-party optical components that far exceed the recommended standards of quality.”

AddOn Networks has recently completed the Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) compliance test through global industry leader in quality assurance testing Intertek. The company’s SFP, XFP and QSFP transceivers have undergone NEBS testing criteria for standards GR-63-CORE and GR-1089-CORE, which saw them being tested in extremities to ensure that they can resist maximal temperature, vibration and humidity. The test also measured and validated improved space planning, simplified installation and increased energy efficiency.

NEBS compliance refers to the conformance of a network product to the requirements of the NEBS standard. Compliance to this standard indicates that a network product or telecommunications equipment performs at its optimum capacity.

“Through our longstanding commitment to our customers, it was important to invest in the most thorough and stringent testing methods that certify our products as safe and reliable,” added Beard. “This sets us apart from other suppliers in the channel market and allows us to drive partner and public confidence in our end to end network infrastructure solutions.”

Reviewing hardware data sheets is the simple part of evaluating third-party compatible optics. All optical transceivers are manufactured to the same Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) specifications, emphasized Beard. Understanding how third-party compatible suppliers control quality is important in making an informed decision and operators need to invest in suppliers who ensure performance at optimum capacity through rigorous testing.

The combination of rapid network expansion and ever-increasing network demands will continue to drive forward third-party compatible optical transceivers and disrupt the channel market. Complete testing of optical transceivers is not common due to the high investment in capital equipment and skilled labor needed, but as demands continue to evolve, enhanced testing will become more crucial, concluded Beard.

In addition to being NEBS compliant, AddOn Networks product lines, including optical transceivers and high speed cabling, are also MSA, TAA, and RoHS compliant. All of AddOn Networks’ products are rigorously tested and coded in its global, state-of-the-art facilities to ensure the highest levels of performance with 100% application testing in end-use conditions.

At the 2019 IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM), held in Waikoloa, Hawaii, United States, on Friday 13 December, oneM2M will provide an overview of its standards and the tools that are enabling interoperability and market growth within the IoT ecosystem. Attendees will be walked through the oneM2M architecture and will examine how to use Open Source tools.

The event will provide an overview of the oneM2M standard and a tutorial, providing demonstrations on how to quickly develop IoT applications. Developers will also benefit from workshops on developing oneM2M applications including sensors/actuator applications and end-user applications.

“The IoT promises to interconnect billions of devices covering various domains. However, the existence of a high vertical fragmentation in current markets, coupled with a lack of standards, threatens risks such as vendor lock-in,” said Laurent Velez, Technical Expert at The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). “If the market is to overcome these hurdles and continue to mature, there must be a greater understanding of the practicalities and benefits of IoT standards across the developer community – and this is exactly what this event aims to do.”

The Hawaii event will follow three events earlier this month, including a tutorial on the oneM2M Common Service Layer on 14 November at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Florianopolis, Brazil. At the event, the challenges faced and the efforts achieved by standardisation bodies to design a globally agreed IoT service platform were discussed.

Participants also followed practical sessions on how to quickly integrate heterogeneous IoT devices and develop IoT applications based on the Open Source project Eclipse OM2M.

On 18 November, in Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil, ETSI and CPQD, as part of the InDiCo project, held a workshop to highlight the value of standardisation in IoT. The event was held in the context of increasing need for interoperability as traditional industry sectors become more connected.

From 19-20 November, also in Campinas, in partnership with the ICT Research Center Renato Archer, InDiCo held a tutorial on the oneM2M Common Service Layer. This was followed by a Hackathon allowing students, young professionals and researchers to get a hands-on experience with the oneM2M standard.

“These events are an important step towards the growth of standards across the application developer community. Providing an abstraction layer for developers to build on, oneM2M standards can provide significant benefits to developers’ IoT applications and devices, such as enhanced interoperability, security mechanisms, multiple communication protocols and interworking with existing legacy devices,” added Velez.

Laurent Velez, a Technical Expert at ETSI, and Dr. Mahdi ben Alaya, Founder and CEO of Sensinov, will present the industry training session on Friday 13 December, in Waikoloa, Hawaii, United States.

CEO retires on a high as 25 Years of the London Internet Exchange is celebrated

Press Release

The London Internet Exchange, known as LINX, celebrated its 25th anniversary in style in front of a record 300 members, partners and special guests at its quarterly member conference in London this November.

LINX was established in November 1994 using a donated piece of equipment no bigger than a digital TV set top box and without any legal contracts, with the goal of keeping traffic local and avoiding costly transatlantic fees.

John Souter

John Souter

The five founding members of LINX were PIPEX, BT Internet Services, Demon Internet Services, EUnet GB and UKERNA/JANET and on the 8th November that year the first traffic was passed from network to network at the Telehouse campus in the Docklands area of London.

The LINX107 member conference in London was held on 11th & 12th November 2019 marked this milestone in UK Internet history. Over 20 global Internet exchanges (IXPs) were in attendance to celebrate LINX’s anniversary, but also to pass on their good wishes to John Souter, LINX CEO for the past 19 years, who will be retiring at the end of the year.

Mr Souter took the stage during the LINX107 event to present on the history of the Internet from his perspective during his time at the helm of LINX. The very first member conference he attended was LINX33 in Paris in 2001 and was present at 74 of the 75 events that followed missing just one due to illness. Even then he was able to follow the proceedings via webcast!

John commented: “We have seen some remarkable changes in the way the telecoms industry has operated over the years but to see that our neutral not-for-profit model remaining the preferred approach for peering is extremely satisfying. Our ethos of working for the good of the Internet has never been stronger and to have so many other IXPs join us for our celebrations at LINX107 was remarkable. It clearly demonstrates what a strong and collaborative industry we work in and long may that continue.”

LINX remains the largest membership owned Internet exchange in the World with networks connecting over 800 members from 80 countries. In fact, on the 25th anniversary itself the 900th network ASN was connected to the exchange, IP Integration (IPI), another milestone reached.

Commenting on his appointment as LINX CEO Kurt-Erik Lindqvist said: “These are exciting times for LINX and I am extremely proud to be taking on this position at this time. John will be a hard act to follow but he leaves us with the exchange in extremely good shape. I’m really looking forward to leading LINX in the next stage of its development.”

Free mobile internet service keeps more than 200m people in developing world connected

Consumers in South America and Africa first to benefit

London, November 21, 2019 – A European company is beating Facebook to the punch by making free mobile internet access available to 215 million consumers in emerging markets. London-based mobile technology specialist Upstream has surpassed the 200 million milestone after making its services available through seven mobile operators in five South American and African countries.

Today, despite Facebook’s global dominance, it only claims to have introduced the internet to “more than 100 million users”. Facebook’s free internet access initiatives in emerging markets ran aground due to regulatory issues, and in India the service was withdrawn following protests and government intervention. However, UK-based Upstream has tackled the problem of the global digital divide directly at source – the user’s handset.

The company’s Zero-D platform works in partnership with mobile network operators to allow users free internet access within an advertising-funded service. Within the service, users receive free, unlimited access to a search engine, a localized and global news service, and a messaging platform.

Importantly, Zero-D allows consumers to continue to access the internet service even if they have zero-credit balance on the pre-paid mobile phone accounts that dominate in the emerging markets.

Running out of data on their service package and not being ready, or able, to top-up means that the two billion internet users in emerging markets are usually disconnected for some 50 per cent of the time. Zero-D tackles that problem directly.

“In much of the developing world,” said Upstream CEO Guy Krief, “the mobile phone represents the only means of connecting to the internet. However, in countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo, an everyday activity that we take for granted – such as reading the news online – would typically cost around 30 per cent of a weekly household income. That’s simply not sustainable.”

The service is managed by Upstream in partnership with operators in Africa and South America. The benefit to mobile operators is that they are able to generate advertising revenue when they would otherwise receive no income from customers who would not or could not purchase their next top-up.

“Zero-D is a mission for us, as much as it is a business,” said Krief. “If there’s a secret to our success, it is that we intentionally designed the service so that everyone benefits, while providing something positive to the world. Keeping more than 200 million mobile users connected is very significant for us,” he added. “It is proof that our approach is working, and it means we are already making a tangible everyday difference to a huge number of people’s lives.”

Tata Communications Transformation Services Limited (TCTS) and Fortinet set to enable service providers to accelerate revenue with the launch of Secure SD-WAN managed services for Microsoft Azure Virtual WAN

SUNNYVALE, California and DALLAS, Texas, November 21, 2019 - Tata Communications Transformation Services Limited (TCTS), partner of choice for the world’s leading Communication Service Providers (CSPs) and a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Communications Limited, and Fortinet, working with Microsoft Azure, has launched a fully managed SD-WAN offering for Azure Virtual WAN.

The TCTS SD-WAN offering will help service providers create solutions to further enable enterprises with seamless migration to Azure, thereby helping to accelerate their revenue in IT migration to public clouds. This joint offering will also enable inter-branch connectivity for customers using the Microsoft backbone and help them to meet SLAs while securing access to applications running on Azure. This offering is one of the first industry solutions of native hybrid SD-WAN coupled with traffic steering and security protection for Azure’s cloud.

In collaboration with Azure, Fortinet and Equinix[i], TCTS has augmented Azure’s current Virtual WAN offering in which application policies can be centrally configured using Fortinet’s SD-WAN technologies integrated with Equinix Network Edge to create Virtual Network Services that deliver enhanced performance and security protection. As part of the larger TCTS award winning, most innovative cloud service, Cloud Networking-as-a-Service (CNaaS) portfolio, the offering utilizes some of the industry’s best product partners with TCTS’ industry recognized virtualization consulting, deployment and operation services.

Madhusudhan Mysore, Executive Chairman and CEO of TCTS said, “TCTS's Cloud Networking-as-a-Service was developed to address the most complex real-world enterprise IT migration to the cloud. It offers a best-in-class white-labeled managed service provider (MSP) offering for operators worldwide to help them accelerate their MSP revenues through Microsoft’s worldwide enterprise customer base. TCTS has a significant set of highly skilled CNaaS technical consultants to provide white-labeled services to operators worldwide, thereby supporting the easy adoption and ongoing use of Microsoft Azure.”

As cloud complexity continues to grow, enterprises are grappling with the many functions, gateways, configuration, segmentation and monitoring of Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs) across Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) data centers, regions and worldwide deployments. Configuration of SD-WAN, VPNs, routing tables, security, gateways and hybrid connectivity within a public cloud continues to be a problem area for most enterprises. Additionally, as the cloud expands to the edge, including managed network connections between the clouds and service providers (ex: Azure ExpressRoute, etc.), cloud complexity will be even more challenging to configure and operate.

"Wide Area Network (WAN) requirements for the enterprise are becoming more cloud centric. Microsoft Azure Virtual WAN (VWAN) is addressing these needs by allowing devices and sites to connect to Azure’s public cloud more easily and globally,” added Ross Ortega, Partner Program.

Manager, Microsoft Azure Networking at Microsoft Corp. “TCTS’ SD-WAN managed services over Azure’s VWAN, will enable service providers worldwide to deliver CNaaS managed services.”

Through this offering, enterprises at any given site can use a hybrid deployment of MPLS and Internet to steer the traffic between mission critical traffic (MPLS and Carrier Ethernet) and non-mission critical traffic (Internet), which further connects directly to Azure via Azure ExpressRoute. This connection can be established leveraging TCTS’ highly commended platform, ‘Virtual Cloud exchange,’ for building within native service provider environments or white-labeled options using the Equinix’ Cloud Exchange Fabric™ (ECX Fabric™) and Network Edge solution offerings within their data centers globally.

John Maddison, EVP Products and CMO, Fortinet said: “Enterprise cloud adoption is driving a global WAN transformation by leveraging SD-WAN technology, but this increases security risks. Fortinet’s Secure SD-WAN offers best-of-breed SD-WAN, next-generation firewall security, advanced routing and WAN optimization capabilities integrated into a single offering. TCTS’ Managed SD-WAN offering with Fortinet provides communication service providers with a turn-key solution to deliver robust, secure and low latency connectivity services.”

Zylpha Unveils High-Performance Pay As You Bundle Option For iManage

The UK’s leading legal systems innovator, Zylpha (www.zylpha.com), has announced an integration of its widely acclaimed legal document bundling software for the popular iManage 9 platform. Of particular note is the all new Pay As You Bundle functionality, enabling users to pay only for what they use. A traditional enterprise integration is also available for organisations with high user counts.

By incorporating Zylpha’s digital document bundling, users can produce legal and other document bundles at a fraction of the cost, time and effort associated with manual processes. Typically, users will save 80% of the time required to produce a bundle, when compared to manual alternatives. In addition, the secure system eliminates costs such as stationery, photocopying, paper file-storage, maintenance and courier costs. Amongst the extensive list of features, especially designed for legal practice users, is the high-speed ability to create and retrieve large bundles rapidly; even those that contain thousands of pages.

Commenting on the new functionality, Nigel Spicer, Head of Development, noted, “The key word here is speed. Zylpha delivers a high performance bundling solution that can cope well with even the very largest bundles. And adding the new Pay As You Go technology has made things even faster slicker and more cost-efficient. We look forward to seeing our customers enjoying the fruits of these developments in the near future.”

Also included in the latest version is Zylpha’s widely acclaimed ‘Deal Bible’ functionality. This enables practices to produce compliant deal folders at high speed. This is especially useful to those practices working on M & A activity or disclosure.

Commenting on the new version David Chapman, Head of Marketing at Zylpha said, “This version reflects our ability to incorporate customer demands and feedback into our development programme. iManage users can now enjoy unprecedented speed on a Pay As You Bundle basis, when completing even the largest, most complex legal document bundles. We are confident, therefore, that this new version will enjoy strong demand.”

"To succeed down the road of 5G, operators must build more lanes and increase capacity," urges ProLabs

Cirencester, UK, 20 November – To address growing 5G demands, network operators are increasingly investing in network infrastructure to enhance capacity and deliver high-quality next-generation connectivity. With many infrastructure deployment strategies being used, operators who utilise future-proof technologies will receive higher returns on investment and greater customer satisfaction, advised Raymond Hagen, Global Product Manager at ProLabs.

Investments in 5G network infrastructure will account for six percent of the total wireless infrastructure revenue of Communications Service Providers (CSPs) in 2019, according to Gartner. In 2020, this figure is expected to reach 12 percent.

With operators making significant investments, they face the critical challenge of delivering 5G in a timely manner while also deploying infrastructure that will future-proof the network to meet increasing growing demands, warned Hagen.

“It is very important for network operators to consider long-term as well as short-term goals in their 5G network infrastructure expansion strategies,” said Hagen. “Everyone is racing to deliver 5G to attract customer satisfaction and positive return on investment however, investing in infrastructure that delivers in years to come will be the key differentiator of high-performing 5G networks down the line.”

Maximising existing optical fibre infrastructure is a cost-effective solution to increase 5G network capacity which can deliver now and into the future. ProLabs solutions help to extend fibre connections on a single fibre to expand the capacity of existing infrastructure. For example, the ProLabs passive wavelength division multiplexers expand the number of fibre optic channels up to 80 times that of a standard grey optic. It does this by managing wavelengths and multiplying fibre optic connections on to a single fibre or fibre pair.

Hagen added, “For operators to deploy high-performing networks that deliver on return on investment in years to come, they must consider how to maximise the potential of existing infrastructure as it is the most cost-effective solution to deliver increased capacity. Our range of solutions include Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) to increase wavelength capacity on single fibres as well as rack mount solutions to increase the density in wire centres.”

Seven percent of CSPs worldwide have already deployed 5G infrastructure in their networks, according to Gartner. As more operators begin to deploy, there will be an increasingly competitive field for network operators to deliver high-quality next-generation connectivity to meet growing market demands. Those who invest in existing infrastructure will be the best equipped to address the increasing demands of the future, concluded Hagen.

The full ProLabs Passive Mux and Demux solutions include CWDM (coarse) and DWDM (dense) wavelength division multiplexers to maximise fibre infrastructure and future poof networks for 10G to 25G upgrades. The portfolio also includes rack mount solutions, splice trays and network cabinets to offer flexible solutions for managing and extending network infrastructure.
