Department Hematology/Oncology Employer State of New York Descriptive Title Administrative Specialist ~ Outpatient Payroll Title TH Staff Assistant 2 Bargaining Unit 08 UUP (State University Professional Services Unit) Salary Grade NSSL1 Salary $34,276 + DOQ FLSA Non-Exempt Full or Part Time? Full-Time Percentage 100 Job Standard / Operational Needs Obtains authorization for Infusions within Department, Ancillary testing, Prescriptions, Elective Admissions and referrals. Works closely with providers, ancillary depts, Pharmacy, Referring Physicians, patients and insurance carriers, ensuring that documentation including CPT and ICD 10 codes are added and accurate for maximum reimbursement, minimal denials, and adherence to carrier rules. Schedules and coordinates ancillary testing per physicians' orders. Obtains ABN or Waiver of Liability signatures. Obtains authorizations for Adult Hematology Oncology procedures and medications that are administered in the Clinic. Obtains authorization for prescribed prescriptions and ancillary tests. Assists physicians and enrolls eligible patients for Patient Assistance Programs. Reviews, responds to needs and concerns identified by statistical reports, such as ABN and denial reports, prebilling scrub report, missing diagnosis reports, incorrect coding reports, etc. Helps trains new employees to the referral and authorization processes. Works with various computer programs such as Epic, Beacon, Chartmax, 3M, Excel, GW. Monitor denials for compliance and coding information for changes pertinent to the hospital or MSG to determine impact on operations. Serves as the liaison and resource person for all staff, providers, support services, i.e. Pharmacy, Finance, insurance companies, Pharmaceutical companies, patient access services, referring departments. Participates with leadership group in the orientation of new employees and house staff regarding coding and authorization requirements and processes. Assists in the preparation of monthly report of activities by compiling statistical data relative to clinic services as needed or requested. Maintains good inter and intra departmental relations. Participates on Quality Committees to represent issues pertaining to office operations as needed. Minimum Qualifications Associates Degree and two years relevant patient financial/insurance services experience in a healthcare related setting or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Basic knowledge of various types of office equipment and computer programs: spreadsheets, word processing. Excellent organizational, use of Computer internet, communication and interpersonal skills; including telephone skills required. Demonstrates good problem solving skills. Prior working experience with ambulatory patient care administrative functions, collecting and analyzing data, organizing appropriate record keeping systems, and outside agencies such as insurance carriers, CMS, billing companies and or other support agencies preferred.
